Special Sauce Sunday: Featurette Erica C. at Per Populus Gallery

Friday I went out to support my girl Erica as she hosted a showing of some assumed local jewelry makers and a photographer, and an artist. Of all five people showing the photographer Tony Lopez, the venue Per Populus Gallery, and my buddy Erica stood out.

The photographer features about 10 or so HDR images that were awesome. He used photomatix software, to create surreal looking photos of regular spaces or locations might be a better word. Digitally he did an old photography trick we call sandwiching that I learning in a darkroom. I guess combining negatives has found its way to digital photography. The work of Tony Lopez.
Per Populus Gallery is a small venue but a place you can imagine so much possibility in because of the energy circulating in the people and in the space.
Erica I met in college, we had the same major. She graduated on time ahead of me and when I get back to the city she had already started a line of tees, and started working on becoming the socialite that she is. She’s a stylist first, but does so much and has so mastered being in the right place at that you can’t help but to notice her. I’m sure it won’t be too much longer before the right people are utilizing her talent. Click here to see her old portfolio.
The belly out chic, that would be Erica C. talking to a friend.Erica on the right with the model that she styled for the event.

Erica with Ryan (not sure if thats how he spells it) of Kustom Karats The model is wearing Kustom Karats as well.

This Blogs old, new beginning.

So what I’ve been thinking about doing for a while now is to feature other people on this blog. Kind of like I did with Kwesi Abbensetts. They could be friends, people whose work I like, people who inspire me so on and so fourth. This idea is not necessarily original to blogs or anything and there’s no way I can think of to do it different, so I’m just going to mention these people on Sundays, probably not every Sunday, just the Sunday closest to whenever I discover them, it, whatever.
The idea is to have a couple words from them so I’m not just regurgitating stuff you’re going to see when further looking into them neither the same stuff you may already know if you already heard of them. If I’m featuring someone I don’t know, or can’t talk to I’ll still feature it, if I’m so moved, despite that being the bane (sometimes fortune) of most blogs existence.
This is important because the goal of this blog from the beginning was to be a launching pad for my magazine, which I got off track from with photography gigs, a bullshit job, boyfriend, car trouble, no money and other happenings of life.

They original idea was for the blog was for it to be the “making the band” of my magazine, i.e. an episode a week (a couple posts a week) until you have the actual band (writers, photogs, editor) and the product of the show and all the hard work… an album (magazine!). But it didn’t go like that, I super slacked.

At the end of 2009, I knew 2010 was going to be my year, and in many ways it was, the only thing missing really just happens to be one of the biggest. So just like last year, at the end of this year I’m back in the mind frame of next year being a big year. So 2011 is almost here, let’s have another go round shall we? 4:36p.m.

All over the place and in pain, pursuing feeling better...

So I was hoping I'd have it together and get back to posting more regularly in December, But the month is here and I've been bullshitin' well with the post's anyway. I have a ton of ideas for Sexless in Chi-city but I haven't had time to write the columns. Even now, I'm rushing through this brief update post so I can go to sleep, so that my attitude isn't so bad at work tomorrow morning so as to prolong being fired from retail hell a bit longer. Anyway what I've been up is, starting kind of backwards or from present moving to days ago: First Chicago Bulls game, sad I know for a born and raised super Chicago girl, but we won against Oklahoma Thunder which I had never heard of before the game Monday. Went out West to support/watch my friend do his poetry thing- he's pretty awesome at it, which reminds me to mention something about other people being featured on this blog, but thats for a later date. Noticed a crack in my windshield that same night, that really disappoints me.

First Erykah Badu concert on the 3rd, she was great as well, however being the critic that I am I must say there was a song or two or three I would have chosen over some of her choices but she still did wonderful, but of course. Saw and independent film with the boyfriend, spent the night and the following morning got an HIV test with the boyfriend(i might explain where he came from in a Sexless, or I might not, depends I guess). Had my first day at my new job as a professional part-time volunteer with an amazing Men's health clinic on the Southside in one of our rough neighborhoods, second day was today. Started and finished all my Christmas shopping (I'm probably the poorest I've been all year right now) Eventually completed orders and got PAID for a couple photography gigs. Started a Flckr account which you can click here to see but not much there yet. Got new business cards finally. Im going to have to stop there because my back aches tremendously, I'm tired and the rest is boring anyway. I'm really working at this time management and focusing thing, and I guess as a result the blog will suffer a bit till I get it as close to figured out as one can get. Oh yea, and its cold as hell, and I DO NOT have HIV, but you might so go get tested. Goodnight 12:26 a.m.

If I were A Rich Girl: November Edition

Spool72.com $480. This was sold out when I discovered it and this website earlier this month.

Spool72.com $198. Me all the way, totally something I'd make. Probably my favorite item of the post. ( maybe along with the Alaia shoes and the sweater vest) Love. Want. Need.
Spool 72.com $48, I already have two similar denim like shirts so no need for another really but this one is pretty cool.
Spool72.com $40. Nothing better or more classic than breathable white in the summer.
Spool72.com $40. Again with the white, shorts, plus lace! Love Want. Need.
Spool72.com $192
Found on Shopbob.com $185. I really like the changing color, but of course they aren't long enough my my legs, and I don't think they have back pockets, so I want them but I don't.

Mossimo Sweater Vest on clearance rack at Target for $20.98.

Boutique 9 $50, I don't know why but I liked the shoe strings the most.
Denmark by Jeffery Campbell $200
Alaia found on Kanye blog, don't know the price, don't care to know either.

I know the posts are slow/almost non existant for this month but I'l explain later, right now I'm gearing up for yet another photo shoot this month, see, it's not for nothing ; )2:50p.m.

Really Garance?!?

Sooo, I noticed this picture of Garance Dore on the Sartorialist blog a couple weeks back and saved it to my desktop in case I ever decided to point out that I almost owned these shoes. Of course my cheapness by force due to no money kept me from grabbing them the moment I tried them on. Seeing them was a pleasant yet painful surprise.... For the original post ( I did some time in June or July)with more photos of me trying the shoes on click here.
Sorry guys or anyone reading about the lack of posts for November. The only thing I can say is, I've been working... and I started a Flickr as a prelude to a portfolio/booking for my photography website. At this moment there are only three photos but if you feel so compelled to check it out, do so here. 2:04a.m.

If I were A Rich Girl: October Edition

I have no idea why I wanted these dolls so bad last Christmas, the set was $50. I don't even particularly like Juicy Couture, as a matter of fact I have yet to see something by them that makes my head spin, except for this and they had the help of Matel on this one. Old photo, from before I had a blog that I just ran across. Still want them.
Spotted on Shopbop.com Michael Kors $225.
More Jeffery Campbells, spotted at Lori's. The more I go in there its seeming like they mark shoes up in that store, didn't even check how much these were.

First and foremost, peep the price tag, I'm watching for this dress to go down to $100 there's only one and with the Lord on my side I shall not want, I shall own. Black Label Ralph Lauren originally $855 69%Rayon 25% Nylon 6%Elastane (elastic)

Thats pretty much it for this month, there were two more dresses but I got one of them and the other I don't like as much after looking at the photos so no need to post. 4:19p.m.
