If I were A Rich Girl: November 2011 Edition

Some of these items were meant for an October rich girl edition, I just never posted, sorry been busy over at my tumblr blog.

Not sure where online I saw this, most likely shopbop but it is a Mirit Weienstock half dripped statement necklace for $265. I adore this piece, I really do.
Asos $43 really cute.
Stunning Katie Gallagher Voodo Leather jacket $2880. I need this. Makes me want to go something like right now.
I got this jaloux_ beaded sideless, sleeveless number for a photoshoot but it has New Years 2012 written all over it, so I may keep it, I don't know yet.
H&M is doing some wonderful things with the jewelry lately I can actually pass on these necklaces I just thought they would look great in a fashion editorial. Im actually going to stop in a couple days and pick up a ring I saw the day I snapped these. I was trying not to go over my October shopping budget but now that its November I'm free to splurge a bit.

This Cynthia Rowely bag I discovered deeply discounted for $150 is to DIE FOR! the leather is supper soft and the detail is impeccable.

La Mer watches that I discovered on Shopbop.com at $110. I am still looking for a perfect watch to wear for at least the next year and a half to two years. This is a runner up, well that is if I could blow that amount a watch.

I know its only the beginning of November so if I see more must haves throughout the month and just need to share them I will be editing this post. 9:08 a.m.

Forgot these from when I was in New York about two months ago, didn't get them, the boyfriend thought these Lucky Brand wedges were hideous.

Back from NY...

... and this post has nothing to do with the trip. Since I've been back I've been thinking about trends I've been seeing, that honestly I just can't get into.
A trend I could never really get into: frilly socks with chunky sandals or socks with sandals period. I think I may have seen it done okay once in the past year since its been a trend but I think that shit looks wack. But more power to you if that’s what you do.
Now, after being in New York during Spring 2012 fashion week and noticing a girl with those Jeffery Campbell hit platform shoes, and coming back home to Chicago I noticed that I have yet to see a pair on anyone here.
That’s not a bad thing, Chicagoans always do their own thing, for the most part, but somehow that train of thought lead me to wondering which one is preferred, the Jeffery Campbell or Opening Ceremony which also seems to be a hit. I’m a bit partial to the Jeffery Campbell Lita's. I wanted them bad when I first laid eyes on them, the desire has since waned but I’d take a pair if they were offered to me, or on super sale. But which do you prefer?
The Jeffery Campbell Lita platform shoe that comes in over 15 colors and prints and are priced at about $165. (and I'd personally would take them in black suede or blue or maybe that cranberry red or even in leopard print, but the options are almost endless)

Or...
The about $495 Opening Ceremony platforms, that I have yet to see in any other color combination???

I'll post a bit on NY in a few days, but I can say that I had an amazing interview with Andre Wagner of the Abstract Elements blog for the magazine... yes Im still on it!

If I were A Rich Girl: August 2011 Edition

Its been a while since I did a 'rich girl' post. Its not that I've ceased being enchanted every other day by clothes and shoes and accessories, but it is that those things are becoming less important in the grand scheme of wants. These days I can only focus on what I want out of and for this life I'm living. For starters I more than want space, I need and crave it.
The two story house/building I want on Hubbard, think its going for $350,000. Got longer than a while to afford that, but its the prize my eye is on.

Of course I'll need furniture, I really wanted to scan and interiors magazine or ikea catalog but I found these old cell phone shots of some chairs that should do fine in hinting at (just a wee bit) my taste level.

If I can do this with my current living situation imagine, how free I'd be with my own studio!

Now still have quite a bit of learning to do but I'd like to be learning with these! Matter of fact I'm not that particular, I could go for a 5D even switch to Nikon, (which was my first digital camera, that I didn't keep) I just am desperate to step my game up, at least starting with more lenses. The Canon 24-70 there is about $1,400! and the 7D body is right under $2,000.

After a space and equipment upgrade, a new and reliable car is certainly in order. While my current 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee will forever have a special place in my heart. I desperately need a new car, while I want to be economical and environment friendly these cars, the Jeep Wrangler, Dodge Challenger and Charger are quite the lookers!

So now that I've prioritized I can get back to some other things that have caught my eye...

Pretty much the entire Balmain Resort 2012 collection was incredible to me, these were my favorites!

Hakaan Fall 2011, I just heard of the label this month, I liked this dress but not much else.

What would a rich a rich girl be without her accessories! Have no idea who is responsible for Brandy's earrings or the necklaces or the shoes but I love them all.
So I need all that stuff and I'll see you all next month, when I get back from New York! 5:55p.m.

Moody Monday:Time management, or lack there of?

Click photos to view larger.
Saturday August 20, 2011: Early shoot for magazine, with Model, Jessica Fulton and ‘All Dolled-Up’ Make-Up Artist Tiana Harrell and Photographer and Stylist, Me, Jakina Ado! The Good, model was excellent, we found different locations doing some improvising after unforeseen but always to be expected complications.
The Bad, it started raining just as we finished look one, and was making our way to look two. Make-Up artist was uncharacteristically late.
The Ugly, we ran into some drunk creeps, (who came off as the best dressed foreign bums I’ve ever had the non pleasure of talking to) who decided to stop the whole show to get a picture with the model, try to get her name and info, as well as watch her change clothes, total creeps.
Sunday August 21, 2011: Went to some spots I’d been keeping in the back of my head for potential shoot locations. The lakefront near 43rd and like 19th street between Halsted and Ashland where there is this amazing fading mural in what I guess is the Pilsen neighborhood near UIC. Hung out with the boyfriend the entire weekend began a damn near weeklong battle with what I’m guessing was a sinus migraine.
Monday, my dreaded job and headache, also started my guess pass to Bally’s I need to loose 10 pounds before October.
Tuesday, my dreaded job, think I managed to play with and post a photo to my Tumblr blog. Which you need to stop reading this and check out here.
Wednesday, nothing but think about all the shit I need to be doing with my life. Plus Headache. It was this day or the day before When Twilight hit me up about doing two photo gigs for a magazine he writes for, I of course was down.
Thursday, day job, then headed to The Shrine to photograph the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, this was almost a waste of time by the lack of entry into the club or access to the band but that’s another story, situation worked out thanks to a plugged thug friend who happened to be behind the event.
Friday, long talk with CJ, real estate, about life in general, then headed out to pick up Twilight for next story, on Yaw, an amazing Chicago singer/poet. I thought I was going to be taking pictures but ended up handling the Sony Handy Cam, so that would be my first videographer gig! After this Headed to Actor C’s crib to go with him to see a short film he starred in as part of the Black Harvest Film Festival. His was among 5 other shorts that were all good except for 1, well maybe two but for potential relationships sake I’ll not go into any detail there.
Saturday August 27, 2011 went to see Erykah Badu in concert at an outside venue in south suburbs outside of Chicago. She was supposed to start at 8p.m. I believe but didn’t take the stage until a little after 9:30!!! Then was over by like 10:15p.m! I don’t know what kind of shit that was but she did only two popular songs out of a total of like 6 interrupted versions of total songs. It was on its way to being a good show but everything was just off, and as much as I love her she was bogus as hell for keeping people waiting and hour and a half, in the cold, dark outside venue like that for a 40 minute performance. Shit was real wack. I can’t imagine going to see her again unless my entrance is free or really cheap and we're in Texas.
So I had an all in all productive week, and even did something towards my magazine!11:30p.m.

Progress?

So I've been back and forth with a stylist I discovered about two months ago. The back and forth has lead us straight to the middle of nowhere because at this point the shoot that I wanted to be our trial/first together to see if we meshed is going on as planned, just without him. I'll let you in on what the aim was. For the first issue, due out end of next month (ha! optimisim seems delusional at this point) there was this Caribbean undertone, where a few of the people I interview and feature have a Caribbean background plus I've been learning a bit about the huge Caribbean population we have in Chicago. So I wanted the one fashion editorial in the premiere issue to have that same flare.

I'm completely aware that every September issue of every major mag is all about fall. But I thought this went better especially with the kind of publication I'm trying to produce. But to pull this off and to avoid any headaches and major wastes of time like before, I figured a stylist is crucial! I have a degree in fashion design but I felt like I have an idea I can't execute as well as I want it to be especially having no ideas for looks/clothes jump out at me. There's usually a piece I see somewhere that gets the wheels turning and gives me the theme I'm going to aim for, but for the first time, I had the theme and no idea where to start.

So I turned to Facebook. Actually, there was a guy, a stylist (whom I actually mentioned on this blog before but can't find the post to link you to it) Redgi Woods whom my co-worker met and mentioned me to about a year or so ago. I sought him out on Facebook, to see what he's been up to. I also had in mind a chick another co-worker mentioned named Ebone Mccloud. Somehow in attempting to stalk these people I came across Jakeen Couture. I wish I could remember link for link what lead me to him but I do know that when I clicked on his blog from a link on one of his pictures and was slightly more interested in getting him to take on this task than the others.
I have no idea what struck me, especially since the blog hadn't been recently updated and the first feature of his work, I wasn't crazy about, but as I kept clicking through I was becoming sure about him, so I reached out.
That was Thursday July 14 2011, he responded the next day saying he was interested, and wanted to meet up to discuss things further. To try to make this to long story shorter today was our first time texting each other and we still have not met. As unlike me as this is about to sound, I still want to see what working together would be like. However I don't know when our next opportunity for that will be because I've already pulled items and put together looks for the upcoming shoot that has moved from Caribbean inspired to just being called " Holding on to Summer."

I feel like I'm holding on to my sanity by a thread but I'm gone pull this one out, after this shoot my focus is back to the actual content and Renetrice, getting her the deposit and getting her started! Last but never the least I booked my flight to New York today, It'll be my first time there during fashion week, and I have in mind about 5 people I want to photograph and interview during my visit, lets call it a business trip! 12:50a.m.
